On the morning of April 12, 2024, the 2024 Guangqi Technology Day event and the Guangqi Technology Innovation Conference were held at the Guangqi Research Institute. Two major technological advancements were announced during the event: the “all-solid-state battery” and “image-free pure vision,” along with the Guangqi Technology’s self-reliance action plan.
The all-solid-state battery unveiled by Guangqi Aion is the industry’s first. It boasts three core advantages: ultra-high energy density, high safety, and a large-capacity all-solid-state cell. Traditional lithium-ion batteries consist of four main components: the positive electrode, negative electrode, electrolyte, and separator. However, solid-state batteries replace the liquid electrolyte with a solid electrolyte. The key difference between solid-state batteries and traditional lithium-ion batteries lies in the electrolyte, which transitions from liquid to solid, balancing safety and high energy density performance. Through breakthroughs in key technologies, Guangqi Aion has successfully developed high-safety, large-capacity all-solid-state batteries with ultra-high energy density. This innovative technology is expected to be integrated into the Hao Bo series models by Guangqi Aion as early as 2026, aiming to address consumers’ concerns about battery safety and range.
Guangqi’s all-solid-state battery employs high-capacity positive electrode technology and third-generation sponge silicon negative electrode film technology (a new type of nano-silicon composite negative electrode). With a surface capacity of up to 5mAh/cm2, it has achieved a technological breakthrough of 400Wh/kg. Compared to the most advanced liquid lithium-ion batteries currently available, its volume energy density has increased by over 40%, and mass energy density has increased by over 30%, allowing for a vehicle range exceeding 1000 km. Compared to current mass-produced vehicles equipped with liquid lithium-ion batteries, the volume energy density has increased by over 52%, and mass energy density has increased by over 50%, resulting in a 50% increase in vehicle range.
In terms of safety, Guangqi has adopted a high-toughness dense flame-retardant composite electrolyte membrane, preventing the battery from exploding during a 200°C heat box test, setting a new industry standard for heat resistance. Additionally, the battery maintains stable performance under extreme conditions such as piercing, cutting, low temperature, and high heat environments, significantly enhancing vehicle safety.
Regarding cell capacity, Guangqi has established a complete process for manufacturing all-solid-state batteries by experimenting with over a hundred material and process schemes. This has enabled the production of large-size, multi-layered stacked all-solid-state cells with a capacity of up to 30Ah, far surpassing the industry’s highest level (10-15Ah). This lays the foundation for further research and development of vehicle-grade all-solid-state batteries.
It is understood that Aion’s solid-state batteries are expected to be commercially available as early as 2026, gradually being incorporated into the Aion series models. Currently, the competition in the new energy vehicle industry is extremely fierce, with many traditional car companies undergoing transformation to enhance their product capabilities. The one who achieves revolutionary breakthroughs in the battery field will lead the forefront of new energy vehicles. The all-solid-state battery is widely regarded as the preferred solution for the next generation of batteries and is the key high ground in the competition for next-generation battery technology. With the self-research capabilities of EV+ICV across the board, Aion has taken the lead in opening the second half of the new energy field, establishing a leading position in the innovation of new energy technology. Aion’s innovative leading technology will bring about significant changes to the new energy industry and contribute to the innovative development of China’s new energy vehicles.
